Day 1: Depart the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, clearing Mexican customs in Reynosa. Follow a pretty drive down to Ciudad Victoria, crossing the Tropic of Cancer, and across the Sierra Madres through the Tula shortcut to San Luis Potosi. Your host hotel will be the beautiful Hotel Real Plaza.
Day 2: After breakfast, off for a tour of this old gold mining center, including the governor's palace (dating from the 1700's), the cathedral, and the ornate Teatro de la Paz. Then you'll drive over some lush mountain scenery on the way to Toluca, quite a
woolen center. This is the route Father Hidalgo took in his march for independence from Spain. As you leave Toluca, you'll have magnificent Mount Nevada de Toluca on your right at 15,016 feet. Mexico's fourth highest peak. Then through Ixtapan de la Sal, Mexico's most famous health spa. Arrive in Taxco, famous for its silver since the 1500's, in the late afternoon. So much colonial
monument. You'll be staying at the quaintHotel Santa Prisca in the heart of town.
Breakfast Included
Day 3: Sightseeing today in Taxco. Narrow cobblestone lanes twist around pretty hillside neighborhoods decorated with flowers and tile roofs. All streets lead to one of Mexico's most fantastic churches, Santa Prisca, built in 1761 and once covered with
silver! Charming shops filled with silver treasures are tucked between beautiful colonial buildings. Time to stow away pretty purchases for the drive to Acapulco. Your host hotel, the Hotel Emporio, has a choice location on the beach and Costera Blvd. This evening, join your friends on La Quebrada's rocky lookout point to watch brave divers sail down into the surging waves. Hold your breath as they say one last prayer before the death-defying plunge. Breakfast & Lunch Included
Day 4: Begin with a kaleidoscope tour filled with ever changing views. Follow Costera Blvd. lined with pastel painted palms, passing balloon-covered horse drawn carriages, admiring the spectacular bay view that made Acapulco famous. Immerse yourself in golden light as you welcome the sunset at the beach.
Day 5: After breakfast, you'll begin your drive to Mexico City with a brief sightseeing visit to beautiful Cuernavaca on the way. You'll be staying at the Hotel Century in the Pink Zone.
Day 6: Spend a full day exploring the great metropolis, including the National Palace, Zocalo, Chapultepec Park, and the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon. This majestic ceremonial center was built when the beasts of burden and the wheel were still unknown in Mexico (100-600 A.D.) Other sightseeing will include lovely residential areas.
Breakfast Included.
Day 7: On your way again, you'll stop for shopping in the colonial town of Queretaro, famous for semiprecious stones. Continue to Matehuala, and the Las Palmas Midway Inn.
Breakfast Included.
Day 8: This final day takes you through the pass in the Sierra Madres, down through Santa Rosa Canyon, then through Linares and the citrus center of Montemorelos. Cross the Rio Grande into Texas at Reynosa in the late afternoon, arriving in the Valley about 5:30 PM.
Breakfast Included.
