Itinerary
Day 1: Depart the Río Grande Valley of Texas, cross the border and prepare to enjoy yourself. Forget about familiar things and let your curiosity put you in a mood for new experiences. Heading southward along the gulf coastal plain, you might almost imagine Hope and Crosby in the back of the bus singing “We’re On the Road to Tampico.” Dorothy Lamour might not be waiting in the city plaza when you arrive, but you will be greeted by the typical even evening bird songs, church bells and people relaxing at the end of the day. Overnight at the downtown Hotel Mansión Real, Tampico.

Day 2: Begin the day with a visit to the downtown market. After some exploring, you'll travel on to the interesting ruins of El Tajín. This holy city of the Totonacs is situated amid vanilla groves and lush green hills. It is believed to be one of the most important pre- Colombian sites in Mexico. In the market you can shop for vanilla liquor (great over ice cream). Your host is the attractive Hotel Poza Rica Inn in Poza Rica, Veracruz.
Breakfast Included

Day 3: After breakfast, sit back and enjoy the pretty ride to Veracruz. The highway is flanked on the west by hills and coconut groves alternating with banana trees. On the east are lagoons, sand dunes, coconut palms and the Gulf of Mexico. Your home for the next three evenings in Veracruz is the famous downtown Hotel Emporio.
Breakfast Included

Day 4: This is a busy sightseeing day. Complete city tour of Veracruz, including the Plaza de Armas, the malecón, the exotic Boca del Río area and the Veracruz Bay Cruise this afternoon.
Breakfast/Lunch Included

Day 5: Get ready to visit the Jalapeños! Leave the sea coast behind and enjoy the colorful ride up into the hills of Jalapa, the capital city. Lush vegetation and profuse flowers are nurtured by the moist climate. Visit the village of Coatepec surrounded by groves of coffee producing trees and dreamy El Lencero, graceful country home of General Santa Anna.
Breakfast Included

Day 6: Stop in Antigua (the old city) for picture taking on the return this morning. You'll arrive in Tampico in mid-afternoon. This area seems to be the cutoff point between the brush country and the lush tropical vegetation. Tampico continues to be a popular destination to most Americans. Famous as a port , it is very vital to the shipping industry of Mexico. Your visit will include a complete city tour. In the evening, stroll over and see the church that Edward Doheny (involved in the Teapot Dome Scandal) gave to the city on your evening walk from your Tampico home, the Hotel Mansion Real.
Breakfast Included

Day 7: Return home through the tropical lowlands, through Soto La Marina and San Fernando. Mexicans refer to their countrymen who live in these ranchlands as Broncos — tough cowboys. When you get back to Texas, why not buy a recording by "Los Broncos Del Norte" for some northern Mexico polkas? Arrive in the Rio Grande Valley in the late afternoon about 530 PM.
Breakfast Included
